Abstract

This research examines the concept of forgetfulness (النِّسْيَان) in the Prophetic Sunnah and its effects on essential acts of worship, namely prayer (الصَّلَاة), fasting (الصِّيَام), and pilgrimage (الحَجّ). It employs a thematic analytical approach to explore relevant hadiths and the rulings associated with forgetfulness, demonstrating the wisdom and mercy of Islamic teachings in accommodating human nature. The study follows a descriptive and analytical methodology, analyzing authentic narrations and scholarly interpretations to extract key jurisprudential principles. It discusses situations such as unintentional mistakes in prayer, accidental breaking of the fast, and errors during Hajj, shedding light on the corrective measures prescribed in Islamic law. The findings highlight that Islamic jurisprudence recognizes human forgetfulness and provides appropriate solutions, including expiations (كَفَّارَات) and corrective actions, without imposing unnecessary hardship. This balance ensures that religious obligations are upheld while acknowledging human limitations, reflecting the flexibility and compassion inherent in Islamic law.
